DC has been named the Chocolate City, and that's not because of any confectioners in town. We've got some uniquely American vibes here in our Nation's Capital, even disregarding all the forefathers and whatnot. Historic U Street Corridor has hosted some of the finest jazz legends (just walk down 13th Street to see Duke Ellington's old house). They were America's musical forefathers...
So it's not a surprise that the city is hosting the Hip-Hop Theater Festival which includes the Brave New Voices Youth Poetry Slams. These guys are probably legends in the making. What DC 'hood is going to be theirs in 20 years?
The programs run through Saturday, July 12 and are followed up by after parties at various bars around town. The music will be dance-able, fo'sho'.
Rock on! I mean...uh...
